Gift Options: what are they?
This article outlines the different types of gift options available - and how they'll function for your business. We've broken it down for each type: Gifting for Orders and Gifting for Products.
Gifting for Orders
If you want customers be able to add gift options to their entire order (for all items), you'll need to turn on the gift blocks found in the Gifting for orders settings.
Gifting for Orders works well for stores offering gift boxes for all items in the order, and at the cart-level. When a gift product is connected to this gift option you may set the Price calculation mode.
Different modes available are:
- Flat rate (per-order / one fee per order)
- Product (per-item / one charge per product)
- Product SKU (one charge per unique sku)
- Product Quantity (charged based on total quantity of eligible items)
Gifting for Products
If you are allowing your customers to mark individual items as a gift, you will want to use Gifting for Products. If you are charging a fee for individual gift options, your customer will see the updated price as they complete their purchase (on the cart or checkout pages). Your customers will be charged the gift option price multiplied by the quantity of the item it is added to. They can increase the quantity of the item + the gift option pricing will be updated to match.
The customer may also add identical items with different gift options (unique gift message for each item).
