Gift Options: Basic or Advanced mode

This article outlines the different gift option modes available - and how they'll function on your storefront pages and checkout pages. Gift blocks behave differently depending on which gift option mode you've selected.

Basic Mode (default)

Use Basic Mode If you want customers be able to add simple gift options without charging them a fee.

  • Basic mode is the default mode when a gift product is not connected yet
  • Basic mode is great for a simple checkbox to indicate an item or order is to be gifted.
  • Basic mode is great for simple gift messaging.

When using basic mode there is no line-item fee associated with the order, use Basic mode for offering free and simple gift options.

Advanced Mode (gift product connected)

Use Advanced Mode when you want to charge a fee to your customers for adding gift options to their order. Advanced mode requires a Gift Product to be connected. Your customers will select options from the connected Gift Product which will determine their upsell fee.

  • Advanced mode allows you to charge a fee for gift options.
  • Advanced mode is the only mode that allows you to add a fee for gift options.
  • Advanced mode means you have a connected a gift product to your gift option.
  • Advanced mode will add a new line-item with the fee (this is a Shopify requirement).
  • Advanced mode is not available on the Free plan. You must switch to Flex or Fixed to upsell gifting to your customers.
  • Offer different gift variants to allow customer to choose.
  • Charge a fee for handwritten gift message or speciality packaging or priority service.

There is no longer a specific setting to turn on Basic or Advanced mode.

This has been simplified, and is implied based on having connected a Gift Product to the gift option in question. You can determine this in Wrapped under the gift option settings (you will see a connected gift product when in Advanced mode).
